That awful moment when you realise the background idea hasn't worked but can't do anything about it!
I've spent an hour trying to recover it but the paper is suffering ...
So this is it ... I'll leave it to one side for a couple of days before deciding whether to do anything more or to bin it
Happy Days!

The background looks OK to me Sue. Love the picture, who is she?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. She's a young girl I photographed in Kerala last year. We stayed on a coffee plantation in Olavipe and when walking into the nearby village we came across a group of around 12 ladies sitting crosslegged and cleaning freshwater prawns from the nearby lakes this young girl was with them. She was very sweet.
ReplyDeletedon't bin it, give it as few days break
ReplyDeletethe background doesnt look that bad :)
Cheers Jennifer. Its propped up in a corner of my 'studio' and I have to stop myself picking it up and 'tweaking' it. I'm going to start on another Indian character drawing to keep me occupied till we go away. maybe that'll turn out better - going to work on some Lakeland Artist paper I was given - its an old pad but is 270g, acid free, 'high quality board' and its a cream/white colour so I'll see how I get on with that.
ReplyDeleteWow, Sue, this does not look bad at all. However, I know that when the artist isn't pleased, it's difficult for them to ever like it. Please don't bin it as the little girl is so sweet looking and you've done a wonderful job on her. Hope you've looked at it long enough for it to grow on you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan. I did have a 'little tweak' around the background area the other day but I think it will have to wait till we come back from India before I make a final decision.
ReplyDeleteI'm about halfway through another 'Indian Character' portrait so fingers crossed I'll have something to submit in February although not sure that is 'up to scratch' .... its frustrating having so little time for the work - more doctors appointments this morning (two more needles) then off to lawyer this afternoon to get our English wills updated so they 'dovetail' with the Spanish ones. Tomorrow is our only day to sort out packing for India - as I'll need to springclean the house on Friday morning ready for the house-sitter. We leave mid afternoon on Friday for the airport.
