30/06: WHAT DOES YOUR ARTIST STATEMENT SAY ABOUT YOU?

Intrigued?

I visited the Turner Contemporary Gallery which opened recently in nearby Margate (cost £17.5million).    Despite studying the Artist Statements and copious notes provided to explain the exhibits I came away non-the-wiser.   I just 'don't get' most contemporary art - I didn't even understand most of the Statements.

I came to the conclusion therefore that I'll never be able to write my own 'Artist Statement'  so am indebted to web designer, Joke de Winter, and David James Ross, for their tongue-in-cheek Artist Statement Generator.

    hi sue - great funny link. And yes, I have also been puzzled how artists can describe their own art - so noone understands it!

    Sue - thanks for the link - sadly it doesn't seem to be working right now - (the site not the link) but I love the idea!

    I totally agree with you about much of contemporary art. Did you see the recent prog showing the Royal Academy summer exhibition? They're in danger of disappearing up their own b*******s!

    Your blog is wonderful! I want to see the artists' statements, but I wanted to mention how I admire your work. I'm so glad you included pictures showing the scale of the portraits. Fabulous work! Best wishes in the competition.
