05/03: STILL HERE

Well, the weather is mixed.   Lots of bright sunny bits in between the clouds.  It has been very windy though (which is what Fuerteventura is famous for).   We spent the afternoon with friends yesterday sitting on the terrace of their apartment which is a 2nd floor building.  It was pretty windy there at times but I did get a bit sunburnt (forgot to put suncream on).

We walked from our house towards the famous Sand Dunes of Corralejo on Sunday afternoon.   It was windy but beautiful as ever

I would point out the wind ruffling David's hair .... but you might spot the problem with that statement LOL

Between our house and the Dunes there is a stretch of beach called 'Kite Beach' and this is why.     Its popular with Kite Surfers and there is a Kite Surf School based here.   Beginners learn to control the huge kites from the beach first

and then progress to flying them over the sea - being towed at high speed on their boards.   I photographed these from a distance as when/if the surfers lose control of them the kites hit the deck with a real bang and could do some damage if they struck a person.

  1. I guess they wouldn't have a school if it wasn't reliably windy. You can get wind burnt rather than sunburnt you know, Ex once stayed in the shade all day and ended up burned to death because of the wind.

  5. I enjoyed watching the kite surfers (from a safe distance) but have no urge to paint/draw any of them .... it was good to see them having fun but it looks like hard work to me.

I did look out for Annie Arkwright Polly, thought it might be a sport she'd enjoy having a go at?
