My lovely old girl was recently diagnosed with Equine Mammary Tumour - breast cancer is rare in horses and this was very aggressive. Sadly she had to be PTS on Monday. I'm so pleased I was able to be with her at the end as it was touch & go whether I could 'hold it all together' for her. It was a lovely sunny morning and her passing was peaceful and dignified and she has been buried at the place she spent her last very happy nine years.
All animal/pet owners will know the pain of having to make that final decision but we owe it to our four legged friends to do the right thing, at the right time. Roxy had owned me for nearly 22 of her 26 years ... the last few years were spent in happy retirement with nothing to think about except where the next carrot could be begged from.
as she was then (I think she was around 5 when this was taken)
and 25 when this was taken ... note the grey hair (how unkind of me to show the 'then and now' comparison - I certainly wouldn't like the same thing to be done to me)!
At hubby's insistence we went away to Bruges/Belgium for a few days afterwards and I must admit the change of scenery and routine let me get everything settled in my mind and stopped me brooding over old photos etc. She had a great life and I have good memories..
so I'm back at the drawing board today and working on the 3 collie picture.
Whilst that is progressing I'll be posting lots of photos taken during our mini break as the City is very pretty and quaint
Sorry about Roxy always sad to lose an animal.
