22/11: HELP!

I pre-loaded a couple of posts as I won't be home/at computer much for the next couple of days.

Now I have this notice from Blogger:

Whoops! You're out of space. You are currently using 100% of your 1 GB quota for photos. Upgrade storage
Photos are stored in your Picasa Web Albums account and are included in your 1 GB free quota for photos. Additional storage that you purchase is shared between several Google products and is in addition to your free quota. Learn more
Has anybody else had this happen to them?   What do I need to do?   I don't intend to start paying to Blog - might as well give in and go back to Facebook (which I don't really want to do).   Any advice out there please?   I think this is because I used to use 'Blogspot' and when it was upgraded recently new limits re. photos/sizes applied?

I have deleted a few old photos from my Picasa album which has freed up a bit of storage space (but can't delete too many as they'll probably disappear off the old Blog Posts.

  2. I'm not sure how you can resolve the problem apart from deleting images that are not on your blog from Picasa.
Make sure that all images you upload are reduced in size(pixels) so that they take up less space.
Hope you don't end up paying for Picasa!

  3. Thanks Jennifer
I've never thought of getting a Flickr account .. will look into it.

I'm going to do what you suggest Cathy - I have deleted a few images but need to have a real careful look at it all .... especially as Blogger warns it may take days for deleted Picasa images to be deleted from Blogger - could be dangerous!

I also realise that this new camera is taking 'larger' images so I will have to ensure everything I post to Blogger is downsized more.

  4. You certainly need to edit for size, my camera always takes huge pix. I don't care about pix in Picassa so I wouldn't hesitate to delete them. I have all my pictures stored on my PC anyway.

  5. Hi Jo
I upload all my pics from my PC Jo, but anything posted on Blogger automatically goes into a corresponding Picasa Album (no way round that). If you delete the photo from Picasa it gets deleted on Blogger, and vice versa ...

They have us by the 'short & curlies' I think LOL

  6. Didn't realise that about deleting from Picassa. I made a book of my early blogs and then deleted them anyway. In fact I make a book of my blogs every 6 months through Blog2Print. I guess if I had the problem I would just delete more early blogs.

  7. I didn't realize that we had limited storage with Blogger. If you use an outside account like Flickr, PhotoBucket, Fotki, etc. to post your photos, do they still go into Picassa & count as space used? It seems to me that I used Photo Bucket and maybe Fotki during my early years of blogging but eventually moved everything to Picassa as that just eliminated some steps. Hope you get it all squared away.

  8. I hear a lot of this from other bloggers lately. It seems the problem is over when you upgrade to Google +, so I think it is a marketing trick of Google. Good luck!

  9. Thanks Jan and Judy. I've also been reading lots of similar stories from other Bloggers. Think you're right Judy, it stems from the switch to Google +

Think its under control now and I'm gradually resizing the most recent Picasa pictures ... tedious but has to be done as I refuse to pay their monthly fee for increased storage!
