02/01: WHITE SHEPHERD PUPPY FINISHED

Here she is finished.

I had planned to text Snow Drop's owner (I think I can just make out the phone no. on her ID tag).  I planned to ask whether he'd like copies of  the photos I took before clearing them from my 'ref library'.  I was also going to let him know that this portrait will be on display at our local gallery next week.

But, then I realised the phone number shown is a land line, not a mobile no - so I can't text him.   I think a phone call might be considered a little intrusive and 'hard sell' ... which isn't my style.   So...... guess I'll give up on that idea. After all, I took these photos of Snow Drop back in October 2009 when I met her on the beach path on her very first outing ... its a long time ago now but as usual the ref photos got filed away in my 'to do' list which seems to get longer by the week!

Tomorrow I will get back to work on the yellow labrador which has been commissioned as a birthday present  for my client's girlfriend.

  2. It's wonderful. Why are you deleting the ref photos? I never delete them when I take them. You never know when you might use them again. Just put them on a zip drive or cd. I would go ahead and call the owner. If he is like most dog lovers/owners, he will be so proud to see the artwork and if you are giving him the refs, he would be happy. If you are selling them to him, then I probably wouldn't mention them. But do give him the chance to see the finished product.

  3. Wonderful portrait - I know you feel it would be hard to call the owner, but I am sure he would love this portrait!

  4. Thank you Karen, Jeanne and Lene.

Jeanne I'll keep a couple of those I consider the 'best' from which to work but there are lots which would be of interest to the owner but wouldn't make good pictures.

I'm not selling the refs .... I'm still in two minds about phoning - just not good at dealing with clients or marketing myself I guess :o)

  5. Sue, fabulous job as usual. You should definitely make the owner aware that the portrait will be in an exhibition and if you don't want to do it, have David give him a call.

He could just just offer him the photo refs and casually mention that the actual portrait can be seen at such and such at a certain date.

Also, if you discussed why you were taking photos of the puppy with the owner at the time, he shouldn't be all that surprised to hear from you. He was probably wondering if you had ever done anything with them!

Let us know how it works out!

  6. Another thought, can you get the address by doing a reverse phone search or something and sending him a little postcard?

  7. Thank you all.

I plucked up courage and phoned ... I explained I wasn't attempting to make a hard sell but thought he might like to have copies of the photos I took.

He was very happy to give me his email address and I've just sent 20 of the best pics with a note letting him know that the picture I produced from one of the refs will be on display for a week at our local Gallery.

Now I just have to mount/frame the last two pictures and work out which ones will go on exhibit - the hanging is tomorrow evening!

  8. So glad to hear that you called him - I knew he would be happy to hear from you. And it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that he buys the painting at the show. It's such a beautiful painting! Let us know what happens and all the best with all of the paintings you decide to exhibit!

  9. Bravo that you called. I know what it would have meant to me with my animals. I treasure everything I have of theirs.

  10. Thanks Jan and Jeanne.
I didn't hear anything back once I'd emailed the photos but I hope he liked them. I'm concerned he might have thought I was going to ask for some sort of payment but I just thought it would be nice for him to have them ... he may have better ones of his own of course.

  12. What a sweet face.
It is so fascinating to watch the progress from beginning to end. From a picture to a work of art :)
    I can't draw a straight line with a ruler - haha!

  13. Wow, very very nice Sue! The client will be so grateful of her precious gift. I wonder how you get whites so bright? Do you use a particular white pencil?
