08/04: FANCY BEING FAMOUS?

Apologies for absence ..... this is partly due to continuing spine/nerve problems with my neck and arm which finally drove me to obey doctor's instructions not to drive/draw or use the computer for a while.    This wasn't too difficult as we were on holiday at our home on Fuerteventura - however, I'm back home and bored.  I will be back at the drawing board on Monday as I have a couple of commission deadlines looming.

In the meantime .... all you pet loving couples out there may be interested to know about a new primetime comedy panel show which is being planned by Endemol (responsible for Big Brother amongst other programmes).  This is what they wrote to me:

Hi Sue,

We are looking for fun pet-owning couples who are very much in love, but have an ongoing tiff or dispute that they want resolved, once and for all! It doesn’t matter how small or ridiculous the issue may be – it could be an annoying habit, a strange hobby, or something silly that they just always argue about, perhaps their pets.

Our celebrity comedy panel will watch each couple in action, listen to both sides of the story, and then ultimately decide who they think is right, and who is wrong. This is the chance to finally get your own way on an issue that’s been driving you mad!

We filmed a pilot of this show earlier in the year, and our comedians included Jack Dee, Jo Brand and Sarah Millican.

After looking at your site and looking at some of your work with pets, It would be great if you could place this information onto your website or include it in your newsletter or members’ mailing list, as this might be perfect for some of your customers. Or if you know anyone personally you could recommend that would be great as well.

Do let me know if you require any further information. I have also attached the below details as a flyer.

Best wishes,
 Daniel

I couldn't find a way to upload the flyer onto my Blog so if anybody is interested in applying - or wants to nominate friends (!!)  click on the link below which will take you to the flyer (via my website) and shows contact email and telephone details.      Do let me know if you decide to go for it ....

  1. sorry to read that you are still having bad problems with your arm and neck :( don't do too much at once tho when you start back drawing, don't want to end up in the hospital :/

i'm sure that going on that panel would help a couple :/ i can't see any good from that, maybe a few divorces tho :p

  2. Welcome back, Sue! Hope you're well-rested and healed so that you don't re-injure yourself working on your commissions!

I won't say anything about the new show!

  3. They have had a show like that here in the states and I don't think it is still on. It was funny sometimes but nothing I would ever want to do on national TV! :)

I have been gone from the computer too for pain issues so we have both been hurting haven't we? Get to feeling better and take it easy for awhile, it is hard to do I know.

  7. Hi Jeanne

Yes I will be back lol

unfortunately my neck/nerve/shoulder problem is slow to heal despite having steroid injection into the shoulder (which helped with mobility). I have to limit myself to drawing/internet/typing time and so the Blog has taken a back seat. I'm going on (another) holiday soon so would hope to be back blogging in June

    I miss you all!

  9. Hi Sue! You can't imagine how pleased I got to meet your work. Everything is so amazing! I'm from Brazil and in the last 3 years I addopted 6 cats from streets. A few months ago I ended up buying a few Rembrandt and PITT pastel pencils to paint all of them. Of course I got frustrated with the results but I have been learning and improving slowly. Let me ask you, which brands of pastels do you work with? And what is your favorite pastel paper among all of them? Im' sure you can help me make my dream become true one day. Thank you so much for your fabulous art, it's really an inspiration to me!

  10. Hi Branquinha
Many thanks for your kind words and congratulations on your adopted 'babies'.

We have a holiday home on Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) where our good friend Lynn (Catwoman) looks after stray cats in the North of the island - ensuring they are spayed/neutered and that sick cats are tended by the vets. She organises feeding stations at complexes where feral (neutered) cats are released so they can be monitored.

Anyway, to answer your questions - I use mostly Derwent, Faber-Castell and Pitt Pastel pencils. I was recently sent some Pan Pastel samples by Bernadette Ward, co-founder at Colorfin in the USA. I really like these pastels for underpainting.

I like heavyweight textured papers for pastel work and my favourites are Clairefontaine Pastelmat and Fisher 400.
